The Wells Free School Board of Governors
The Wells Free Schools is governed by Trustee and Member Governors: each of our governors bring some form of specific expertise to the Governing Body. All Trustee Governors work in partnership with our talented and dedicated staff team to deliver the best possible educational experience for the children. Many of our Member Governors have returned to our governing body after being founder members of the school or previous trustee members, as they still have a passionate interest in supporting our school.

Co-Chair of Governors: Louise Hallam

I have served on the Governing Body of The Wells Free School for 7 years and am currently Co-Chair of Governors, working closely with Tony Kung and the other governors to help provide strategic vision and oversight of The Wells Free School.
Now retired, my career was spent in education, both in the UK and abroad. I taught mainly in secondary schools, primarily in the classroom but latterly as part of Senior Leadership teams focusing on pastoral wellbeing and safeguarding.
Education is a powerful tool for society, and I wholeheartedly believe that a strong start in a great school is key to a successful and happy life. The Wells Free School’s vision of inclusion is one that aims to nurture every child and as a governor my aim is to support and enable this ethos.
I have a growing family living between England and Spain. Two of my grandchildren are being educated trilingually in the Basque country and in my spare time I am learning this difficult language. I love travelling, reading and undertaking long bike trips all over Europe.

I joined The Wells Free School as a governor in September 2021. I was a hospital pharmacist for many years in East Sussex before settling in Tunbridge Wells and I currently work as a general practice pharmacist in primary care. I am passionate about education and training and have experience in teaching in higher education. Therefore, on the flip side, I am interested in exploring more about early years education and different key stages, especially as a new parent at the school.
I believe knowledge and creativity are equally important. I look forward to working with the school and continue to deliver teaching excellence as well as to develop our pupils’ strong sense of equality, diversity, and inclusion to our community.

Carol Davidson

I have a lifetime of experience of working with young people, initially as an outdoor education and PSHE teacher, and latterly as a freelance outdoor education instructor. This could be working with young people who are enrolled in the Duke of Edinburgh Award, running forest school sessions or working with primary school children on team building activities. I love to see young people achieve things they did not think they were able to, as this can give them confidence in many areas of their lives. I love the outdoors and go walking as much as I can. I have a therapy dog called Inca who is a black Labrador often comes to work with me, though she is slowing down a little now and can’t do the long walks we used to but still enjoys her daily walk. I also enjoy music and love going to concerts and the theatre. I am really looking forward to my new role at the Wells Free School.
Lucy McKenzie

My experience as an educator took off during a gap year teaching classes of up to 70 children in a remote village in Nepal, with little more than a piece of chalk and a lot of youthful enthusiasm to guide me! Fast forward several years and, with a PGCE and Masters in Education from Cambridge University under my belt, I became a Year 5 teacher; initially in the UK and then in Australia, where I additionally acted as a Student-Teacher Supervisor and presented at the Australian National Interactive Teaching and Learning Conference.
After the birth of my daughter, I swapped my classroom for a studio here in Royal Wells Park, setting up a newborn and family photography business in 2018. However, I missed the vibrancy and enthusiasm of children in a school setting, so I started volunteering at The Wells School in January 2024 as a ‘Reading Angel’ for Reception and Year 1 pupils – I really appreciate the opportunity to work one to one with the children and seeing their reading skills and confidence grow so rapidly during these early years of education feels almost like magic!
Robert Taylor

My daughter is now in Year 10 and my son is now in Year 7, both having completed their entire primary school journey at The Wells Free School. I volunteered to become a parent governor in September 2023 and I am now a Co-Opted governor, deciding to stay when my son left the school in July 2026. I’m excited to continue to take on the role of a governor and support the other governors and staff to ensure the school continues to develop and grow the children’s minds and personalities in preparation for their move to secondary school. I’m a great believer in lifetime learning and believe The Wells Free School can set our children up to enjoy continuing to learn throughout their lifetime and hope I can assist in the school achieving this.
Natalie Arnold

I am delighted to serve as a Staff Governor at The Wells Free School, a community that is very close to my heart. Alongside this role, I am the school's Office Manager, Personal Assistant to the Headteacher, and Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL), which gives me the privilege of supporting our students, families, and staff every day.
My connection with The Wells is both professional and personal. My daughter attended the school and, during her time here, I watched her grow in confidence, discover her voice, and develop into the young person she is today. Seeing first-hand the positive impact that The Wells had on her journey is one of the reasons I am so passionate about supporting the school and its continued success.
I have a particular interest in Special Educational Needs (SEND) and am committed to helping ensure that every student feels valued, understood, and supported to achieve their potential. I strongly believe that every child deserves the opportunity to thrive in an environment where their strengths are recognised and celebrated.
Before joining The Wells, I completed a degree in Photography, and creativity remains a big part of my life. Outside of work, I enjoy needle felting, candle making, and a variety of other creative pursuits. I love making things by hand and find that creativity brings both joy and balance to my busy life.
Being a Staff Governor allows me to combine my professional experience, personal connection to the school, and passion for supporting young people. I am proud to be part of a school that genuinely cares about its students and empowers them to grow, succeed, and be themselves.
Suzanne Farr

My name is Suzanne Farr and I have been in education for 30 years. In that time I have taught all primary ages, been a SENCO, a deputy head, and now a headteacher. I believe passionately in providing our children with the best education possible, with opportunities that broaden their horizons and inspire them. As the challenges for schools grow, I want to support our young people, in not only my own school, but also where I live, hence joining The Wells Free School Governing Body. I have a son who is 18, a dog called Reeka, and I ride a motorbike! I am an avid reader, and love a crime thriller to help me relax.
Anneka Yau

I joined The Wells Free School as a Parent Governor in 2026 and I am delighted to be part of the governing body.
I’m a mum of two boys, both of whom attend the school, and I’ve really enjoyed getting involved in school life. When the opportunity to become a Parent Governor came up, I was keen to be able to bring my experience and perspective to help the school continue to develop and provide an environment where children are happy, confident and excited to learn.
I’m a Chartered Accountant and have spent almost 20 years working in finance, starting my career at EY and then in senior finance roles at the John Lewis Partnership and more recently, Pizza Express. My career has given me experience across financial management, governance, risk, strategy and business transformation, and I hope to bring some of this experience to the governing body. Just as importantly, I want to bring the perspective of a parent – making sure that the parent voice is part of the conversations we have as governors.
I’m passionate about helping to maintain and build on the inclusive and supportive environment at The Wells Free School, where every child can thrive, whatever their strengths, interests or starting point. I also value open, honest and constructive relationships between parents, teachers and governors, and hope to play my part in strengthening those relationships across the school community.

David Wilson
I live on Royal Wells Park and I am Treasurer of the Residents Association as I have a strong interest in the local community. In the 1990’s I was Parent Governor Member at Eastbury Farm Primary School, Northwood and enjoyed being involved in helping maintain the quality of the school and the strong OFSTED rating.
My own education was in Middlesbrough and then at Sale Grammar School, I then became an Articled Clerk and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in the City of London. My career was a mixture of Property, Insurance, Finance and Professional Training based in the UK and in Oman.
I would very much like to help contribute to the on-going success of Wells Free School and have already enjoyed my participation in the various activities and meeting my fellow Governors and Staff.
Jane Page
I was a Parent Governor at TWFS from 2017 until 2021 when my daughter left TWFS to move on to secondary school. After an 18-month break, I was persuaded to get involved again - this time in the role of Member Governor as part of the two-tier Governing Body structure.
Prior to taking early retirement in 2025 I worked as a Group HR Director for a large, CQC registered, domiciliary care company and so have extensive experience and understanding of safe recruitment practices, managing people, training and development and career development within a highly regulated sector. These are all areas which are easily portable and relevant to the education sector and to TWFS.
TWFS has a special place in my heart and I am delighted to be able to continue to support the school with its plans for the future.
Jude O'Connor
I feel a strong connection to and affection for The Wells Free School having been one of the founder members and then both governor and parent in the early years of the school. I am delighted to have been asked back to become a member governor and I hope to bring to the role some of the knowledge and experience I have gained in the intervening years as a specialist dyscalculia & maths learning difficulties teacher. It’s been wonderful to see the school grow and change with the passing years and even more wonderful to meet the fantastic, creative and inspiring children and staff who continue to make this school such a special place.
Liz Grant
I was on the school Governing body from January 2018 until April 2021. I previously worked in the IT department of a local through school for 12 years, 7 years of which I was the Network Manager which including managing budgets and school wide IT projects additionally I was the Chair of the Royal Wells Park Residents’ Group from January 2019 to January 2022. I very much enjoyed my time as a Governor of The Wells Free School and it is good to come back in this new role and watch the school continue to grow.
Monica Pell
I was a founder member of The Wells Free School and served on the Governing Body until 2017. It has been wonderful to see the school go from strength to strength, and I look forward to its 10th anniversary in 2023. I qualified as a teacher in 1971 and have been involved in education, in one way or another, ever since. I am currently the Chair of Governors of a federation of small rural schools in East Sussex.
